This small home was completed in early 2017 and sits on a small lot in Cascade Locks, OR. It was designed as a simple, small home for a limited budget. The client wanted to create a small functional 2-bedroom for himself and his young daughter. The house is 2-stories with a total of 910 sf. The downstairs has an open plan with a living room, powder room, and kitchen/dining room. A compact stairway winds upstairs where there are two bedrooms and full bath.

Large windows on the 2nd level and a 2nd floor deck take advantage of fantastic views of the Columbia River Gorge. The wall framing utilized 2x8 construction for extra insulation. A wood stove provides most of the heating needs, but the first floor is hydronically heated concrete slab as well. Windows were configured for cross ventilation taking advantage of consistent winds in the Columbia River Gorge. The second floor is framed with exposed Douglas Fir timbers and 2x6 tongue and groove decking. Fir trim, doors, and cabinetry compliment the exposed framing.
